Important information:
Passport & Visa
A valid passport is required, with at least 6 months of validity remaining from your departure date. Citizens of many countries can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Ngurah Rai Airport for 30 days (extendable once). The cost is approximately 500,000 IDR (around USD 35). Prepare your hotel booking and return flight details for immigration inspection. Complete the online health and customs declarations (accessible via QR codes at the airport) before arrival.
Health & Insurance
No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry, but Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus are often recommended. Tap water is not safe for drinking—stick to sealed bottled water. Bali is a high-risk area for dengue fever, so insect repellent is essential. Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover any unforeseen circumstances, medical emergencies, or trip interruptions
Currency & Payments
The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and shops in tourist areas. However, it is essential to carry cash for smaller warungs, markets, temples (entrance fees), and local drivers. ATMs are readily available in towns and cities. Look for official money changers displaying "BMC" signs to avoid scams.
Prohibited Items
Be respectful of Balinese Hindu culture. Do not touch sacred objects or point your feet at people or temple offerings. Dress modestly when visiting temples (sarong and sash required—often available for rent). Climbing temple structures or touching sacred relics is forbidden. Drugs are strictly prohibited with severe penalties.
Physical Requirements
This tour involves a moderate to high amount of physical activity, including the Mount Batur sunrise trek (moderate difficulty, 2-hour ascent) and walking on uneven terrain at temples and cliffs. Comfortable walking/hiking shoes are essential. Some locations like Nusa Penida involve stairs and steep viewpoints without railings—exercise extreme caution.
What to Pack
Lightweight, breathable clothing (cotton is ideal), comfortable walking/hiking shoes, sandals/flip-flops, sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF50+), a hat, insect repellent (DEET-based recommended), a reusable water bottle, swimwear, sarong for temple visits, and your camera. For the Mount Batur trek, pack a warm layer (temperatures at sunrise can be cool) and a headlamp or torch.
Dress Code
When visiting temples and sacred sites, modest dress is strictly required. Shoulders and knees must be covered. Sarongs and sashes are required and can usually be rented at temple entrances. Swimwear is only appropriate at beaches and pools. Tops and cover-ups should be worn when leaving beach areas.
Check-in/out
Standard hotel check-in time is typically after 14:00. Check-out is usually before 12:00. Early check-in or late check-out is subject to availability and may incur additional charges. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory—guidelines: IDR 10,000/day for hotel staff, IDR 50,000/day for private drivers, and 5-10% at restaurants if not already included.
Safety Notes
Bali's roads are chaotic with right-hand drive vehicles. Exercise extreme caution when crossing streets. Do not rent scooters unless you are an experienced rider—accidents are common among tourists. Be aware of strong currents and rip tides at beaches; only swim in designated areas. Respect the ocean and never turn your back on waves.

Indonesia emergency number (police/ambulance/fire): 112. Chinese Consulate in Denpasar (for Chinese citizens): +62-361-239902. Save your country's embassy contact details. Download the "WhatsApp" app for easy communication with guides and drivers.

Best Time to Visit (Seasonal Travel Guide)
Dry Season (April-October)
The best time to visit Bali with sunny days, low humidity, and ideal conditions for outdoor activities like hiking, snorkeling, diving, and sightseeing. Peak tourist season occurs in July, August, and September—expect larger crowds and higher prices at attractions and accommodations.
Shoulder Season (April-May & September-October)
The most recommended time to visit. Enjoy the benefits of dry season weather with fewer crowds than peak months. April/May offers fresh, lush landscapes after the rains, while September/October provides excellent conditions for diving (calm seas) and hiking (clear trails)
Wet Season (November-March)
Characterized by tropical downpours (often short afternoon bursts), higher humidity, and lush green landscapes. This season offers lower prices on flights and accommodations (except Christmas/New Year), fewer tourists, and unique cultural experiences like Nyepi (Day of Silence) in March. Indoor activities like spa treatments, cooking classes, and yoga retreats are ideal during this time.
Special Events
Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence) in March—the entire island shuts down for 24 hours, including the airport. Galungan (every 210 days) celebrates the victory of dharma over adharma with decorated bamboo poles lining the streets. Kuningan follows 10 days later. Melasti purification ceremonies occur at beaches before Nyepi.
