Important information:
Passport & Visa
A valid passport is required, with at least 6 months of validity remaining from your departure date. Switzerland is part of the Schengen Zone. Many nationalities enjoy visa-free entry for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Please check specific visa requirements for your nationality before traveling. Border control may ask for proof of onward travel and sufficient funds (approx. 100 CHF per day).
Health & Insurance
No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry. Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover any unforeseen circumstances, medical emergencies, or trip interruptions. Switzerland has excellent healthcare but medical costs are extremely high. Tap water is safe to drink throughout the country.
Currency & Payments
The local currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops. It is advisable to carry some cash (100-200 CHF) for smaller vendors, mountain huts, and tips. ATMs are readily available in cities and towns. Some places accept Euros but change will be given in Swiss Francs.
Physical Requirements
This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, including uneven terrain and steps at historical sites and mountain viewpoints. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. At high altitudes (Jungfraujoch at 3,454m), some travelers may experience mild altitude sickness symptoms.
What to Pack
Comfortable walking/hiking shoes, layered clothing (mountain weather is unpredictable), a warm jacket/windbreaker (even in summer), sunglasses (essential for snow reflection), sunscreen (SPF50+), a hat, reusable water bottle, power adapter (Type J, three round pins), and your camera
Dress Code
When visiting churches, modest dress is appreciated (shoulders and knees covered). Casual attire is acceptable elsewhere. For fine dining in Zermatt or upscale restaurants, smart casual is appropriate. Always carry a light jacket for mountain excursions.
Check-in/out
Standard hotel check-in time is typically after 15:00. Check-out is usually before 11:00. Early check-in or late check-out is subject to availability and may incur additional charges. Some Swiss cities charge a tourist tax (Kurtax) of 2-7 CHF per person per night, often payable directly at the hotel
Emergency Contacts
Emergency number (police/fire/ambulance): 112 (Europe-wide) or 117 (local police), 144 (ambulance), 118 (fire). Download the SBB Mobile app for real-time train schedules – Swiss trains are famously punctual but stops are brief.
