Health & Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory and must cover medical emergencies. If skiing or paragliding in Gudauri, ensure your policy covers winter sports at high altitude.
Currency & Payments
The official currency is the Georgian Lari (GEL). International credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are widely accepted in Tbilisi hotels, restaurants, and larger stores. However, cash is essential for rural areas, markets, small family-run businesses, and mountain regions like Gudauri and Kazbegi. ATMs are available in cities but limited in remote areas. Euros and US Dollars can be easily exchanged at banks and exchange offices—please avoid street exchangers. We recommend carrying some cash in small denominations for convenience.

Moderate fitness required—expect walking on cobblestones, uneven terrain, and stairs. The 4x4 ride to Gergeti Church is on a steep, bumpy road (not recommended for back problems or pregnant women). Not wheelchair accessible.
What to Pack
Comfortable walking shoes, warm layers (mountains are significantly colder), waterproof jacket, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, and European round-pin power adapter.

Modest attire required at churches/monasteries—shoulders and knees must be covered. Photography is often prohibited inside.
